Still trying to keep on top of things…..

Having completed the BTA Level 1 course at Loughborough and two CGFI courses at Titliest Performance Institute in Carlsbad California, Darren is still on the vocational qualification hunt.

Despite being the only Level 2 CGFI instructor in Europe, Darren is returning to TPI to complete the level 3 course and gain the coveted MGFI.  While he’s over there he’s also going to do the CrossFit certification with the US Marines at Camp Pendleton. This has nothing to do with blagging another week in California.

Think Fitness - Peak Performance Fitness onwards and upwards

The collaboration between Darren and Think Fitness has had another boost with the addition of Olympic gold medalist Darren Campbell to the team.  Darren C has got involved to do speed work with players if needed as part of Think Fitness’s provision of experts for football teams.

Darren R commented, ‘getting Darren C on board was a major coup, using sprinters for speedwork isn’t something that’s generally done in football and to be fair in terms of basic mechanics and drills there isn’t much Darren can’t tell them that the team conditioner couldn’t. But when it comes to players, they listen to someone like Darren Campbell and do exactly what he says.  It also shows that they’re been ‘invested’ in by having an Olympic champion come along to work with them, and even though he’s retired he’s still faster than anyone else and can show them a pair of heels on the pitch!’.

Darren Campbell said, ‘It’s great to be working with Think Fitness, I’ve already been doing speedwork with players at the WRU and with Jonah Lomu when he came back to UK.  Sprinters are underused when it comes to coaching other athletes but we have a lot to offer.  Besides, have you seen Darren R run..?!’

Team Roberts now a single athlete team

Amy has jacked triathlon in after a glittering career spanning one sprint distance triathlon. Unfortunately work (shopping) commitments were interfering with her preparations and she has withdrawn from all the races.

Team Roberts has only one athlete left in the form of Darren, ‘I think it’s great Amy has jacked it in’ said Darren, ‘Spending £3000 on equipment for her plus all the race fees, Half Ironman UK was £200 to enter alone, losing all that money and having to sell everything on ebay for a fraction of the price really was a good day for me’.  Lilly-Mae will remain as Team Manager.

The team also has a new vehicle – a Volkswagon Passat Estate (diesel), this replaces the BMW M Sport coupe.  Darren was overjoyed at getting rid of the beemer, ‘it was the right thing to do, and with fuel costing around the same as platinum the BMW had to go.  There’s nothing quite like the throbbing power of the 110ps diesel engine to get my juices flowing.’
