Red
Bull
Peak Performance Fitness has been carrying out mainstream sports development
for Red Bull since 2001. Red Bull suffered from a lack of credibility
in mainstream sport, and this was simply due to lack of education
about the product and the media's capacity to fabricate horror stories
about people drinking it. With our connections in the Zurich Premiership
and SuperLeague rugby, we began seeding the product by educating athletes
and coaches on how to use it correctly - "As a fellow trainer,
I was able to speak to coaching staff in their language as opposed
to a marketeer who couldn't answer their questions to the depth required.
I'm there to help them as one of them, not sell them something - and
it's this that's made the programme a success." says Darren. |

What does it do?
Red Bull focuses your mind, allowing you to apply yourself physically.
This ensures that you perform safely and effectively at 100% with
maximum return on your effort. Some Frequently Asked Questions:
Is Caffeine a Banned substance in sport?
No, as of Jan 1st 2004 caffeine was officially taken off the banned
substance list by WADA (the World Anti Doping Agency). Prior to this
decision however Caffeine was viewed a substance that needed to be
monitored and was therefore subject to a limit. This limit was the
equivalent to drinking 6-8 cans of Red Bull every 2 hours. |
|
From this starting point Red
Bull is now used everywhere in the Zurich Premiership, Superleague,
England Rugby, Scotland and Wales. Darren Campbell, Jason Gardener
and Lee McConnell are all Red Bull athletes - as with all Red Bull
athletes, they are not paid to drink the product as they already use
it and believe in it. Swimming, football, hockey and even Golf use
Red Bull - and as more sportspeople and coaches become educated, the
list of users grows.
"When Red Bull approached me about seeding the product into sport
- the task was a little daunting and none of us really knew where
it was going to go. But I believed that as long as we gave people
the facts - they would come to the same conclusions as I did, and
start using it. In what is a relatively short space of time, through
educating and building genuine relationships - we've managed to get
everyone at the top level of every mainstream sport using it on merit
as opposed to signing blank cheques"
"It also gives me the opportunity to work with the best sportspeople,
coaches and sports scientists in the world, which is priceless in
terms of my own personal development and the rest of my team."

Is there any difference Between Red
Bull in Different Countries?
Red Bull is still canned in the original factory using the same water
source. Each Red Bull country has an allotted run in the factory,
before be packed into containers and the transported to its destination.
This ensures that the can of Red Bull you buy in Moscow is exactly
the same as the can you buy In California, apart from the lettering!
Stimulation or Sugar free?
The effects of Stimulation and Sugar Free Red Bull on the body and
mind are the same. If you’re on a calorie-controlled diet, or
feel that you do not need the 25g of carbs as you pre-activity carb
plan has taken care of it, then use sugar free. If however you feel
that those 25g of carbs will be required, then use stimulation or
a combination of both stimulation and sugar free.

What is Red Bull?
In 1987 its founder, Dietrich Mateschitz, launched Red Bull in Austria.
It is now available in 102 countries worldwide with around 1 billion
cans being consumed each year.
While working for Proctor and Gamble in the early 1980s Mateschitz
found a drink that enabled him to stay awake and alert after his long
haul flights. This product was called “Kretang Deng” and
was a concentrate that was mixed with water. Red Bull is the literal
translation of “Kretang Deng”. After several years of
research, brand building and making a product suitable for the Western
world, Red Bull was launched. It finally came to Britain in 1995 and
is now one of it’s biggest markets with sales in the UK last
year topping 213 million cans.
Red Bull is much more than a soft drink – it is an energy drink.
It was designed for moments of increased physical and mental stress
and improves endurance, alertness, concentration and reaction speed.
In short: it vitalises body and mind. The effectiveness of Red Bull
Energy Drink has been proven by a large number of scientific studies.
The Red Bull motto is that it “stimulates body and mind”.
It does this by using a combination of different ingredients, principally
caffeine, taurine and glucuronolactone amongst others. All studies
that have been conducted on Red Bull are for the product as an entity
rather than the individual components of the drink.
It has been used extensively in Free – or extreme – sports
and motor sports for a number of years. The effectiveness and multi
faceted nature of the product has also meant that people also use
the product to stay awake and alert while driving and at work. All
this has now had a knock on effect into mainstream sports where the
product benefits are being utilised.
Will a cup of coffee have the same effect?
Red Bull does contain caffeine just like coffee however it is the
other ingredients in Red Bull that improve the benefits of the caffeine
and make the effects last longer.
How much is 80mg of caffeine?
A normal cup of filter coffee will usually have around 80mg of caffeine
while tea contains 50mg. However, what is a “normal” cup
of coffee? Red Bull is a regulated dosage, what is says on the can
is what you get- 80mg.
What are the other ingredients?
All the contents, other than Caffeine are naturally occurring substances
in the body. Taurine and Glucuronolactone are naturally occurring
Amino Acids that the body is unable to synthesise. A person weighing
70kg normally has approximately 70g of Taurine in the body. In certain
situations the body needs to replenish these and extracts them from
food that has been eaten. If you have no need for them then they will
simply pass through the body and be excreted as waste.
Why do some of the ingredients have more than 100% of the
RDA
The Recommended Daily Allowance is what is required to be alive rather
than what you need for a healthy balanced diet.
When and how should I use it?
You should drink 1 to 2 cans 40 mins to 1 hour before your chosen
activity, and/or at some suitable break period during your activity.
The effects of Red Bull should last at least an hour, so factor this
in when choosing your time to take Red Bull.
Whilst caffeine is a diuretic, there is not enough caffeine in Red
Bull to de-hydrate you. However, as good hydration practice you should
consume equal amounts of water to the amount of Red Bull you drink.
If you are thirsty you are already de-hydrated, so reaching for a
can of Red Bull is not the answer.
Caffeine is no longer on the WADA banned list however this does not
mean that consuming 4 cans of Red Bull at once will give you twice
the effect of 2 cans. 1 to 2 cans of Red Bull are more than enough
to focus your mind. You can use it pre-activity and during, but would
advise an upper limit of 4 cans consumed over time. As a fixed measurable
dose of ingredients you can easily monitor your intake.
When drinking Red Bull, as a fixed dose if ingredients it should be
consumed as quickly as comfortable, not sipped slowly over time. The
full can has to be consumed to receive the full benefit of it’s
effects.
